Japan beat Pakistan in final of Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2024 after penalty shootout

Japan has managed to outclass Pakistan in the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup on penalty shootout after the game between the two Asian sides ended in a draw in normal time.

The high-octane final showdown of the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup 2024 between Pakistan and Japan was underway with nation looking at hockey team.

Japan managed to level score at 2-2, creating suspense in the game. They struck first against Pakistan in the opening half, capitalizing on weak defense to secure a goal from the left wing.

Pakistan fought back in the second half, equalizing and then taking the lead with two quick goals, marking their first final appearance in the tournament in 13 years.

The final contestants were determined before the last round of matches, with Japan finishing two points ahead of Pakistan after defeating Canada 3-1. The showdown is taking place in Ipoh, Malaysia.

Pakistan maintained their unbeaten streak with a 1-1 draw against New Zealand in the last round-robin match. Coach Roelant Oltmans acknowledged Japan’s strength defensively and anticipated a tough final

Men in Green has showcased exceptional performance throughout the tournament, securing victories in three out of five matches and drawing two, one of which was against their current final opponent, Japan.

Currently placed second on the table with 11 points and undefeated so far, Pakistan is poised for a thrilling clash at the Ipoh Perak Stadium in Malaysia. Meanwhile, Japan holds the top spot on the points table with 13 points from four wins and a draw.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz expressed support for the team, hopeful for a victory that reflects the renewed interest in hockey across Pakistan.
