ISLAMABAD – Rains of varying intensities are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday evening/night and Saturday.
The much-awaited wet spell will help reducing the intensity of smog by washing away hazardous pollutants from the atmosphere.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), westerly wave prevails over northern parts of Pakistan. It will likely grip most upper parts of the country tomorrow.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country on Thursday night. However, cloudy weather with rain-wind/thunderstorms and light snowfall over high mountains is likely in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Kashmir. Smog/dense fog will likely persist in most parts of Punjab.
On Friday and Saturday, rain-wind/thunderstorms with snowfall over high mountains are likely in the twin cities, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Northeast Balochistan. Dry weather is expected elsewhere in the country. Smog/dense fog will likely persist in most parts of Punjab during morning hours which will subside from evening/night.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 10-12°C on Friday and 09-11°C on Saturday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 13-15°C on Friday and 12-14°C on Saturday.
Meanwhile, dry weather prevailed over most parts of the country, while cold in hilly areas during the last 24 hours. Smog/dense foggy conditions prevailed in most areas of Punjab. Rain-thunderstorms occurred at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Leh remained the coldest place in Pakistan where the mercury dropped 03°C below the freezing point.
In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 11°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 82 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 14°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 59 per cent.
