ISLAMABAD – Rain-wind/thunderstorms, isolated hailstorm and snowfall over the hills are likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan from Sunday night to Tuesday, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

As per the synoptic situation, a shallow westerly wave prevails over northern parts of Pakistan. A fresh westerly wave will likely enter Balochistan on Sunday night (February 25). It will likely grip the upper parts of the country on Monday (February 26).

Under the influence of these conditions, rain-wind/thunderstorms with few heavy falls, isolated hailstorm and snowfall over the hills are likely in the twin cities and parts of Pakistan from Sunday night to Tuesday.

Snowfall may cause the closure of roads in north Balochistan. Heavy rain may cause flash flooding in local nullahs/streams in Balochistan, particularly in Gwadar, Ketch, Panjgur and Awaran districts on Monday. Snowfall may disrupt traffic in Murree, Galyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla, Astore, Hunza, Skardu, Neelum Valley, Bagh, Poonch and Haveli on Monday evening/night & Tuesday.

The possibility of landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galyat, Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan cannot be ruled out during the forecast period. Wind thunderstorms may damage loose structures like electric poles, solar panels, etc. Farmers and tourists are advised to remain extra cautious during the spell.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03-05 degrees Celsius on Sunday and 04-06 C on Monday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 05-07 C on Sunday and 06-08 C on Monday.

Meanwhile, Cold and dry weather prevailed over most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Partly cloudy and freezing weather prevailed in northern parts of the country.
