Islamabad, Pakistan weather update; more monsoon rains expected during weekend

ISLAMABAD – More intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal penetrate southern & central parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave also prevails over western/upper parts of the country.

Under these weather conditions, more monsoon rains are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Punjab, Pothohar region, Balochistan, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan on Friday night and the next two days. Heavy falls may also occur in south Punjab, eastern Balochistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the period.

Widespread monsoon rains may generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Kalat, Khuzdar, Barkhan, Lasbella, Sibbi, Kohlu, Harnai, Naseerabad, Jaffarabad, Zhob, Bolan, Dadu, Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Gilgit-Baltistan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Northeast Punjab and Kashmir from tonight till 17th August.

Heavy rains may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of lower Sindh, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera and Peshawar. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Islamabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 29-31°C on Saturday and Sunday.

Rawalpindi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 29-31°C on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in Punjab, Islamabad, Pothohar Region, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, upper/lower Sindh, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeastern Balochistan during the last 24 hours.

Nokkundi remained the hottest place in the country where the maximum temperature was recorded at 47°C. The maximum temperature in Dalbandin was recorded at 45°C.

In Islamabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 34°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 79 per cent.

In Rawalpindi, maximum temperature was recorded at 34°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 69 per cent.
