Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration on Monday declared three local holidays from October 14 to 16 in anticipation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.
The announcement was made official in a notification regarding three holidays from Monday to Wednesday has been issued. This decision aims to facilitate smooth operations and security measures during the high-profile event.
A notification issued by Cabiner Division said Prime Minister has been pleased to declare 14, 15 and 16 October, 2024 (Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday) as closed holidays within the territorial limits of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and Rawalpindi District to facilitate the smooth conduct of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Heads of Government.

Residents and businesses in Islamabad are advised to plan accordingly, as the holidays will impact regular activities and services in the city. The SCO summit is expected to attract significant attention and participation from various member states, underscoring Islamabad’s role on the international stage.

Pakistan armed forces have been deployed to secure SCO Summit in capital on October 15-16, as per an Interior Ministry notification.
The army will oversee security from October 5 to 17, taking over from the Rangers. The summit will include heads of state from eight member countries, focusing on regional cooperation. Iran joined as a full member in 2023, with additional nations participating as observers.
