International Thalassaemia Day observed

08 May marks the International Thalassaemia Day, which is celebrated all over the world to raise awareness among general public, health care provider & decision makers to improve the lives and wellbeing of Thalassaemia patients all over the world.

Thalassaemia Federation of Pakistan (TFP) organized a national Webinar to commemorate the International Thalassaemia Day 2021.

Gen (R ) Moin ud din Haider, president TFP, welcomed the event participants and highlight the significant contribution of NGO’s in improve the services provided to Thalassaemia patients and their families in the country.

Dr. Hussain Jafri said that Thalassaemia is the commonest inherited disorder in Pakistan, over 6000 affected children are born annually with Thalassaemia Major, meaning 17 affected children are born each day in Pakistan.

He said that psychosocial interventions play a very important role in the prevention of genetic disorders.
