ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan, along with former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and several other party leaders, was acquitted on Wednesday in a case registered at Aabpara police station.

Judicial Magistrate Yasir Mehmood announced the reserved verdict.

The court also acquitted leaders including Sheikh Rasheed, Asad Qaiser, Shehryar Afridi, Faisal Javed, Raja Khurram Nawaz, and Ali Nawaz Awan.

It is one of many other cases Imran Khan and his party leaders have been facing since removal of his government in 2022. He has been in custody since August last year and has faced convictions in some cases before this year’s nationwide election.

The iddat or un-Islamic marriage case is the main hurdle now in the way of his release.

The case in which he was acquitted earlier in the day was involving the protests outside the Election Commission of Pakistan’s office in the federal capital regarding the Toshakhana verdict in 2022.

Advocate Sardar Masroof and Advocate Ansar Kayani represented the former prime minister and others in court.

He asked the court that the case is nothing but politically motivated, the same be set aside and his client be set free.

The prosecution, however, opposed his arguments and held that Khan and his party leaders orchestrated protests against the ECP.

However, the court, after hearing both sides, reserved the verdict and announced it earlier today.
