ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Friday expressed displeasure with the police for arresting ordinary citizens under the pretext of protests.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir was hearing the case.

During the proceedings, the court was informed that the brother of a vegetable vendor had been arrested from F-10 in connection with a protest and sent to judicial custody.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) criticized the police, saying that “What are you people doing? You are arresting individuals who were not even part of the protest. This is absolutely wrong. How can you detain people who have no involvement?,”.

The victim’s brother testified in court, saying, “Our brother was picked up from F-10 on December 1 and added to the list of unidentified persons in a protest case. I am a vegetable vendor, and my father works as a bike courier. Our brother had no connection to the protest but was arrested at a checkpoint,”.

Justice Tahir directed the DSP Legal to review the case. The DSP assured the court, “I will look into the matter and stay in contact with the affected family,”.

The court directed the Islamabad High Court Bar Association President Raiyat Ali Azad to represent the petitioner and file a bail application in the trial court.

In court, the bar president said, “The Inspector General is busy with political slogans while the police’s duty is to ensure people’s safety. This is a violation of human dignity. Islamabad is the capital city, not Balochistan,”.
