ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court has declared the arrest of PTI activist Sanam Javed illegal and disposed of the petition seeking her release.

During the hearing, the attorney general told Justice Miangul Hasan Aurangzeb that the Balochistan police were no more seeking her transit remand. He said the PTI activist was free to go back to her province.

At one point, the high court judge told Sanam Javed’s lawyer that he had seen on the internet that his client used inappropriate language.

“Do you guarantee that she won’t engage in inappropriate conversations in the future?” To which the lawyer responded that Sanam Javed will not use inappropriate language in the future.

Earlier this week, The PTI activist walked free on Monday as Islamabad High Court restricted police from arresting her in any case until Thursday.

In a brief ruling, Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb restricted Sanam from leaving Islamabad and ordered her to remain silent.

Her lawyer Mian Ali Ashfaq and shared a selfie on social media showing Sanam and her family. The development occurred a day after Islamabad Police held PTI activist shortly after an Islamabad court had released her, according to her lawyer.

Sanam’s lawyer said Islamabad police intercepted their vehicle to arrest her. “We handed her to the police without resistance. This is what law-abiding people do,” he said.

Last week, Lahore High Court dismissed a case against Sanam related to the May 9 riots in Gujranwala. Sanam contested her physical remand in a new case in Gujranwala after she was granted bail in all cases registered against her in Lahore.

However, the Islamabad police rearrested her as soon as she stepped out of the Central Jail of Gujranwala on Saturday.
