IGP appreciates performance of Tahaffuz Markaz Kasur

First meeting of the Punjab Journalist Protection Coordination Committee was held at the Central Police Office, in which besides IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar, Member Committee Punjab Journalist Safety Coalition (Punjab Chapter) Iqbal Khattak, President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists Afzal Butt, President Punjab Union of Journalists Shehzad Hussain Butt, representative of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Arslan Tahir and representative of Secretary Information and Culture Punjab, Director News DGPR Qudrat Ullah attended. Convener Committee DIG Security Kamran Adil informed IG Punjab about the objectives and working of the Punjab Journalist Protection Coordination Committee.

During meeting measures regarding the protection of journalists, prevention from all kind of exploitation and threats were discussed. During the meeting, the officials of representative organizations of journalists presented suggestions about the committee’s mandate, rules of business and working. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar assured the protection of journalists and provision of all possible support. Convener Committee DIG Kamran Adil while welcoming the suggestions of Protection Committee members said that all possible measures are being taken to protect journalists.

Moreover, Inspector General Police Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar chaired a meeting to review the performance of the Tahaffuz markaz at the Central Police Office, in which the staff of the Tahaffuz markaz Kasur presented a briefing about their performance to IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar. DPO Kasur and in-charge Tahaffuz markaz, Victim Support Officer while informing about the performance said that Tahaffuz markaz Kasur provided support and protection to 52 transgenders, 34 homeless people, 16 children victims of child labour. Tahaffuz markaz treated 42 drug addicts lying on different roads, all of them are living a normal life, provided police khidmat markaz facilities to more than 1300 citizens including issuance of 810 driving licenses. 34 missing and lost children were found and handed over to parents and the Child Protection Bureau.

Tahaffuz markaz arranged the admissions of 14 deserving children of poor parents to school, restored education by providing uniforms, books and monthly fees. One kidnapped transgender was recovered after a police encounter and 04 accused were arrested. Tahaffuz markaz Kasur has inked MOUs with various govt. and private institutions including Social Welfare Department, Child Protection Unit, District Bar Association, Old Home, under these MOUs social security, help and assistance will be provided to the citizens who are suffering from difficulties.

IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar appreciated the performance of Tahaffuz markaz Kasur for providing services to hundreds of citizens. IG Punjab also met the school going children, their parents and other beneficiaries of the Tahaffuz markaz kasur. IG Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar said that Tahaffuz markaz has become a brand project of Punjab Police in terms of human service and protection, through the platform of Police Tahaffuz markaz relief .
