A delegation comprising 20 members from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) met with senior officials, including Sindh’s Inspector General of Police, Ghulam Nabi Memon, at the Central Police Office here on Saturday. The meeting underscored the commitment of both law enforcement and business communities towards ensuring peace and stability in Sindh, particularly in Karachi. During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding security initiatives at the provincial level, focusing on police operations and standard operating procedures.
Additional IG Karachi Imran Yaqub Minhas, zonal DIGs, and establishment DIGs participated directly, while representatives from Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas, Shahid Benazirabad, and Larkana joined via video link. IG Sindh provided the delegation with a comprehensive briefing on security developments in Sindh and Karachi from January 2024 to May 2024, highlighting the efforts undertaken by the Sindh Police to maintain law and order. He informed the delegation that during this period, 146 suspects were killed and 7696 were arrested in 1480 police encounters across various districts of the province. Moreover, IG Sindh shared data indicating a decline in street crimes, with 546 encounters resulting in 76 suspect fatalities and 2249 arrests in different areas of Karachi. The proactive measures taken by the police have contributed to a decrease in the daily street crime rate to 160 incidents in May. Furthermore, efforts are underway to install facial recognition cameras on key entry and exit points, particularly at vulnerable areas like Northern Bypass, and implement an E-tagging system for regular monitoring of criminals.
