DUBAI – The promo released by Star Sports India for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has attracted the criticism.
The promotional video for the mega event refrained from mentioning the host nation’s name and instead featured clips from the T20 World Cup 2024, rather than specific highlights from the Champions Trophy.
Additionally, the promo did not include any images or video clips of Pakistan as the winner of the last ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, leaving fans of the Green Shirts further disappointed.
The fans criticized Star Sports for omitting key moments from the 2017 Champions Trophy and failing to acknowledge Pakistan as the host for the upcoming tournament.
On the other hand, fans also expressed frustration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not ensuring the host nation’s representation or the inclusion of memorable moments in the promo, with some suggesting a boycott of the event.
Meanwhile, a decision regarding the Champions Trophy is expected this week. Top officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are currently in Dubai, engaged in discussions with the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The sources said that the most issues were resolved.
It may be mentioned here that the last ICC Champions Trophy was held in 2017, where Pakistan defeated arch-rivals India by 180 runs in the final to claim the trophy.
Pakistan will defend its title in the upcoming event.
