It is said sometimes a single poem, a story or a play is sufficient to make you popular overnight. Though a rare phenomenon, yet in case of Rawalpindi’s poet Hassan Abbas Raza whose “Awargi mai Hadd Say Guzar Jana Chahiay/Lekin Kabhi Kabhar ghar jana Chahiay” took his fame beyond Pakistan, it is true.
Pakistan Academy of Letters (PAL) organized an evening with the noted romantic poet of Rawalpindi under its regular programme “Ahl-e-Qalam Say Miliay” or “Meet a Writer.”
Director General of the National Language Promotion Department (NLPD) and acclaimed poet Iftikhar Arif was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Among the noted writers and poets who had come to listen to Hassan Abbas Raza and ask him questions about his life and works included former Rector of the International Islamic University and acclaimed scholar Prof Fateh Mohammad Malik, PAL Chairman (additional charge) Dr Inamul Haq Javed, DG of PAL Dr Rashid Hamid, fellow poets, writers and contemporaries of Hassan Abbas Raza.
