Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Hammad Azhar has resigned as party’s Punjab president citing internal differences and no access to Imran Khan – the party founding chief who has remained behind bars for over year.

Hammad Azhar, once close aid of Imran Khan, resigned from his role in a social media post on X. He lamented his lack of access to party leader, stating, “I did not hold any press conference or make any deals.”

He explained that his movements are restricted, preventing him from visiting Adiala Jail to meet Imran Khan. Hammad also raised voice against party organization, noting that he was neither consulted nor in agreement with them.

The politician said several decisions were influenced by lobbying and limited access to Imran Khan, with one-sided information being presented to him. He criticized efforts to replace Lahore President Chaudhry Asghar, asserting, “Today, they succeeded by providing misleading information to Khan Sahib.”

‘Hammad Azhar Resigns’

Hammad said his only mistake was being imprisoned for two months, winning elections in Nawaz Sharif’s constituency with Form 45, and being appointed Lahore president just three months ago.

The disgruntled leader pointed out several unjust decisions made without Khan’s awareness, saying, “In this context, it’s impossible for me to compromise on merit as Punjab president.”

‘A year in Hiding’

PTI leader Hammad Azhar comes out of hiding in May this year after hiding for a year, following a crackdown on party officials.

After his reappearance, police arrived at the PTI secretariat, reportedly to arrest Azhar, prompting criticism from PTI leaders.
