ISLAMABAD – The federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) would resume second round of talks in Islamabad on Thursday (today).
“A closed-door meeting will be held at the Parliament House this afternoon at 3:30,” said the sources familiar with the development.
National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq would chair the meeting.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur would also take part in the talks during which the PTI would present its charter of demands.
“PTI plans to raise the issue of the release of Imran Khan and other party workers from the jails,” said the sources, adding that the party would also demand formation of a judicial commission to investigate the incidents of May 9 and November 26.
The sources said that the government would respond with its strategy in light of the charter of demands.
Just a day ago, Prime Minister’s Advisor on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah extended an offer to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), suggesting that an agreement on protest methods be reached during the negotiations scheduled for January 2 (today).
He proposed setting boundaries to ensure no lines are crossed.
Rana Sanaullah further stated that political stability is impossible until rival political parties sit down and engage in dialogue.
On the other hand, PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar welcomed the idea of including protest methods in a code of conduct, saying that releasing political prisoners including Imran Khan, would pave the way for political stability in 2025.
PTI leader Asad Qaiser asserted that Imran Khan would not leave prison until his workers are released and confirmed that PTI would present two major demands during the January 2 negotiations with the government.
Two days ago, following a meeting with Imran Khan at Adiala Jail, his sister Aleema Khan shared that Imran Khan had firmly stated he would neither strike a deal nor accept house arrest in Bani Gala.
“I have already served one and a half years in prison and will face the cases against me,” he said.
Asad Qaiser reiterated PTI’s demands including the release of all workers and Imran Khan, a judicial inquiry into the events of May 9 and November 26.
He also confirmed Imran Khan’s resolve not to leave jail until his workers are released.
