KARACHI – Pakistan International Airlines PIA is set to cut international fares after the waiver on Federal Excise Duty got approval from the global lender.
The national air carrier will cut international ticket prices as International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) approved waiver on Federal Excise Duty (FED). IMF reportedly granted a waiver at the request of the incumbent government, offering substantial savings for flyers.
Those looking to travel to the US will get up to Rs3.5lac difference and those traveling to other regions like Africa and Gulf countries could see fare cuts of around 1lac while those traveling to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the Far East may experience savings of up to Rs2lac.
This move is related to the FED imposed on flight tickets in 2024 budget, offering some relief to passengers.
The government remains committed to privatizing the loss-making airline and is revising regulations to allow bidders to compete for a 60% stake in the airline.
