Germany’s annual inflation rate dropped to 4.5% in September, preliminary data showed on Thursday. The rate was 6.1% in August and 6.2% in July, while 10% in September 2022. The 4.5% rate in September has been the lowest level since the Ukraine war started in February 2022.
“The last time a lower inflation rate was registered was in February 2022, when it stood at +4.3%,” according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). Food prices continued to post an above-average growth with 7.5% in September. “At +1.0%, the increase in energy prices was, however, much lower than the year-on-year change rate of the overall index,” Destatis said.—AA
