LAHORE – The strike by flour mill owners against the withholding tax has entered its second day today
Chairman of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association Asim Raza said that their demand to withdraw the withholding tax is legitimate, saying that they cannot act as tax agents.
He noted that neither the government nor the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) reached out to discuss the issue.
The flour mill owners in several major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sukkur, Rohri and Hyderabad took part of the strike.
As a result, the supply of flour from mills to local markets has come to a complete halt.
The mill owners vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met. The market sources warned that if negotiations failed, there is a risk of a nationwide flour shortage.
