Five perish in roof collapse, road crashes

Five persons including a woman died and six others sustained injuries in three incidents of road accidents and roof collapse in different areas of Punjab on Monday.

According to Rescue 1122 and police, a man along with son died when roof of a room collapsed due to mortar shell explosion here on Monday.

The police informed that the incident took place in Basti Adil Shah of Rahim Yar Khan where a 50-year-old scrap dealer Siraj Ahmad who purchased a mortar shell in scrap was cutting it with angle grinder.

The mortar shell exploded during cutting, resultantly roof of the room caved in. As result, 50-year-old Siraj and his 15-year-old son Sajjad died under the debris of the roof.
The rescuers pulled out the bodies from under the rubble and shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities.

On the other, the police and other law enforcement agencies rushed to the explosion site and collected evidence. The officials confirmed that blast occurred after mortar shell exploded.

Meanwhile in Kot Addu, mother of the assistant commissioner died and he along with two other persons sustained injuries when his official car rammed into a logs-laden tractor-trolley.

According to rescue officials on Monday, Kot Addu Assistant Commissioner Fiaz Ahmad Jatala was going in his car along with his mother and two other persons. On TP Link Road in Kot Addu, the car crashed into a log-laden tractor-trolley.

Resultantly, the AC’s mother died on the spot while the AC and the two others including the driver sustained injuries.

Rescue 1122 team rushed to the scene and shifted the injured AC to Nishtar Hospital Multan while two other injured persons were taken to Kot Addu THQ Hospital.

Rescuers informed that the car rammed into the tractor-trolley due to darkness. The car was on the way to Kot Addu from Multan.

The assistant commissioner belongs to Okara and his mother’s body was being shifted to Okara for burial.

Meanwhile, two members of a same family died and three others sustained injuries in a collision between a car and trailer on M-4 Interchange.

According to police sources, the ill-fated car was on the way to Multan from Islamabad. On information, the rescue teams and police rushed to the spot and pulled out the dead and injured persons from the car by cutting vehicle’s body.

The deceased were identified as Bashir Ahmed and Naseem Akhtar while the injured were identified as Fatima, Ahmed and Sadaf. Rescue 1122 shifted the dead bodies and injured to Civil Hospital Khanewal. Rescue sources said that the dead and injured were members of the same family.
