KARACHI – A fire erupted on Monday morning on the fourth floor of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) building in Karachi.
A short circuit caused the fire.
The rescue teams immediately reached the spot and started their operation to control the blaze. The fire officials mobilized five fire tenders, a snorkel and a browser to the scene.
They reported that the fire, though intense initially, was quickly brought under control. The trading activities at the PSX were temporarily suspended as a precaution, but the building has since been reopened after an immediate evacuation.
Jawad H Hashmi, PSX’s General Manager and Chief Market Operations Officer, issued a statement announcing the suspension of trading from 10:25 am to 11:25 am due to the incident.
The access to the building was temporarily restricted for many firms.
Thankfully, no casualties were reported, although there was some material damage. The Deputy Commissioner South visited the site and confirmed that the fire was not of a serious nature.
Several fire incidents took place recent in Karachi which caused increase in the current heatwave conditions.
