ISLAMABAD – The federal cabinet did not discuss the option of banning Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, the sources close to the development said on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif chaired the meeting.
Earlier, the reports had emerged that the cabinet meeting would also consider the matter of banning PTI, and imposing Article 6 on former President Arif Alvi, PTI founder chairman and former National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
The meeting, they said, would review a summary of visa-free entry for foreign investors and the issue of special courts under the SECP Act.
An MoU between Pakistan and Denmark, the approval of the appointment of the Chairman of the Evacuee Trust Property Board and a summary to increase the number of members of the Privatization Commission would also to be presented.
Few days ago, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar had stated in a press conference in Islamabad that the federal government had decided to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
He had said that a case under Article 6 would be initiated against former President Arif Alvi, PTI founder Imran Khan, and Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri.
After approval from the federal cabinet, a reference would be sent to the Supreme Court, their passports and identity cards would be blocked, a resolution would be passed from the parliament, and action against them would be completed within the framework of the constitution and law.
