ISLAMABAD – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued a notice to Netflix, an American subscription video on-demand over-the-top streaming service, to recover Rs200 million in wake of income tax, local media reported.
The streaming service offers a wide variety of award-winning TV shows, movies, anime, documentaries, and more on thousands of internet-connected devices.
Netflix offers plans range from Rs 250 to Rs 1,100 a month in Pakistan. Reports said the streaming company earned Rs1.3 billion by providing services in Pakistan in tax year 2021 alone.
The tax notice has been issued by the Additional Commissioner CTO Islamabad to the American company, directing it to pay Rs200 million in tax for two different years.
The notice has been sent to the company’s Singapore office, the reports claimed.
