ISLAMABAD – Torrential rain in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi has led to overflow in Nullah Lai, prompting authorities to order evacuations of surrounding areas.

Reports said the water level in Nullah Lai has exceeded 22 feet at the Katarian point in Rawalpindi, while at the Gwalmandi point, it is also reaching dangerous levels.

The Flood Control Room has issued an alert, stating that evacuation from Katarian will be started as the water level has crossed 20 feet level.

The administration has ordered those living along the banks of Nullah Lai to evacuate their settlements. Residents of nearby areas are being moved to safer locations.

Meanwhile, heavy rain has inundated several low-lying areas in Rawalpindi, leading the administration to call in military units, Rescue 1122, and other organizations. Flood sirens have been activated near the Gwalmandi bridge, and nearby populations have been put on high alert.

The administration has set up flood relief camps at five different educational institutions in Rawalpindi.

Data indicates that Nullah Lai is experiencing dangerous flooding due to the rain in the twin cities. The Meteorological Department reports that 38 mm of rain was recorded in Saidpur, 82 mm in Golra, 71 mm in Bokhra, 88 mm in PMD, 66 mm in Shamsabad, and 34 mm in Kachehri.

On the other hand, many areas in Rawalpindi Cantt have been flooded, including Range Road, Shalay Valley, Jan Colony, Chak Jalal Din, and others.

The Cantt and Chaklala Cantt areas have been particularly affected by the rainwater, which has entered homes due to the inadequate cleaning of drains.
