LAHORE: Punjab Minister for EPD M Rizwan chaired a departmental meeting in Committee Room of EPD on Wednesday to review measures taken by the department according to PEPC.
Secretary Saima Saeed informed the officials of department that a provincial policy to control environmental changes would be initiated soon as approved by of the Punjab CM Punjab. She further said that in the meeting of PEPC, decided to compile a comprehensive report on environment and also set up environmental endowment fund. DG EPD also told that EPA has constituted teams for identification and taking appropriate legal action against illegal resource recovery units, established without environmental approval in violation of section 12 of PEPA Act 1997 and also causing environmental pollution in violation of section 11. The minister said that first time in the history of Pakistan, federal and Punjab governments were taking measures collectively to protect environment from pollution and hopefully after interest of CM all issues would be resolved soon. All the concerned officers of the department were present in the meeting.
