To support the Government’s climate change and green energy initiatives, Engro Corporation has implemented a 1 MW solarization project under the Green Presidency Initiative, turning Aiwan-i-Sadr into one of the only few presidencies in the world to be fully powered by green energy.

A brainchild of His Excellency, The President of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Dr Arif Alvi, the roll out of Green Presidency Initiative started off with an extensive sustainability and energy efficiency audit that culminated into successful execution of purpose-driven solutions.

Under this initiative, Engro Energy – a subsidiary of Engro Corporation – installed a state-of-the-art 1 MW solar panel system at the Presidency that will help reduce carbon emissions by 1400 tons and contribute savings of around Rs 32 million to the national exchequer.

For context, this is equivalent to planting 57,000 mature trees. With net metering, a 100 percent surplus energy is also being contributed to the national grid.

The Green Presidency initiative also qualifies for Green Building credits that have been achieved through sustainable practices including, rainwater management, water metering, waste management and self-sustaining vegetation.

The initiative is part of the PTI Government’s long-term sustainability agenda being propelled through a multitude of projects across the country.
