End protests, embrace dialogue

The ongoing PTI protest in Islamabad has once again thrown the capital into disarray, disrupting daily life and causing widespread inconvenience. By persisting with such tactics, the party has put itself in an increasingly precarious position. The belief that forceful demonstrations can intimidate the State is not only misguided but also a dangerous miscalculation. Instead of advancing its objectives, PTI’s approach is backfiring, making its own path more difficult

Consequences of this prolonged protest are being felt across the twin cities. The placement of containers, blocking of roads and disruption of communication networks have paralyzed daily life. Residents find it difficult to go about their daily chores and employees struggle to reach their workplaces.

These challenges reflect the broader political instability that has plagued the country, hampering progress on multiple fronts. At a time when the country is finally beginning to see signs of economic improvement, further unrest only jeopardizes these nascent gains.

The country is also about to host a meeting of SCO heads of government, a significant international event that brings the country into the global spotlight. The images of protests in the capital send a disconcerting message to the world. The onus of political stability rests not only with the government but also with the opposition. Whilst it is time for the government to engage in meaningful dialogue with the PTI leadership, it is also essential for PTI to show flexibility.

A more mature approach to political discourse is necessary, where issues are debated within constitutional frameworks and solutions are sought through negotiation rather than conflict. National interests must supersede personal or party-driven agendas. While the right to protest is enshrined in democracy, the current situation requires restraint and wisdom.

PTI should reconsider its modus operandi and call off the protests. Only through dialogue and compromise can the political impasse be resolved, allowing the country to move forward toward stability and progress.
