Emphasize on eradicating intolerance in society urged

Speakers of an Interfaith Conference organized here on Tuesday emphasized on eradicating intolerance in the society. Punjab Minister for Human Rights and Minorities Affairs, Ejaz Alam Augustine, Dr. Khurram, Prof. Kalyan Singh, Syeda Mehnaz from Punjab University, MPA Sindh Diwan Sachal and Abdullah Malik were also part of the conference.

While explaining the aims and objectives of the conference, Dr. Khurram Janjua said that the purpose of such conferences in educational institutions is to make the youth aware of the importance of interfaith harmony.

Expressing his views, Prof. Kalyan Singh said that religious minorities played a key role in the completion of Pakistan while the Sikh community voluntarily became a part of Pakistan.

Prof. Syeda Mehnaz said that Islam is a religion of love and security while no any religion allows violence. Justice (retd) Anwar-ul-Haq said that we should all be aware of our rights but have to promote dialogue in educational institutions.

Provincial Minister Ejaz Alam said the majority need more interfaith harmony in society while we all have to work together to end violence. The provincial minister said that incidents like the Sialkot tragedy must be stopped at all costs. For the first time in Punjab, a policy of interfaith harmony was formulated.

Ejaz Alam further said that this initiative of Punjab was also appreciated by the Supreme Court while similar policies are being introduced in other provinces as well. He congratulated the university administration on its excellent efforts.
