February 8 is finally here, the day of the 2024 elections in Pakistan. As Pakistan head to polls on Thursday, millions of young voters are taking part in the polling process for the first time in history.

Pakistan Observer comes with easy tutorial, explaining steps for all Pakistanis to learn the exercise.

Key steps to cast your vote on Election Day in Pakistan.

Finding your Polling Station

The foremost important step is to check where you’re registered to vote by sending your ID Card number to 8300. After compiling your polling station information, locate it before time.

Like previous years, polling time starts at 8 AM and ends at 6 PM. Visit the Polling Station early time to avoid long queues. Share your valid ID card; as photocopies or any other document won’t be accepted.

No Mobiles in Polling Station

It’s best to leave your mobile at home or in a safe place, as it’s not allowed inside the polling station.

As you step Polling station, police and law enforcement personnel will check you.

Voting Procedure

Voters need to wait for their turn as presiding officer will verify that your name and electoral number are listed, and mark them as issued.

As national and provincial assembly elections occur at the same time in Pakistan, you will get two ballot papers. The presiding officer will stamp and sign the back of each ballot paper.

Marking finger

The voter needs to be required to get personal mark made with indelible ink on any finger or thumb of either hand.

PO will also note down your voter number on the electoral roll and CNIC number on the counterfoil of the ballot paper and will stamp it with the official mark and sign it.

Election staff will then take your thumb impression on it as well as on the electoral roll against your entry.

Marking Ballot Paper

After that, you need to proceed to the area reserved for marking the ballot paper. Officer will mark it off the list to let you know that you have been given two ballots.

Let it be known that if you forget to look for the presiding officer’s signature and stamp on the back of both papers, your vote won’t be accepted.

Stamping

Voters will get two ballot papers, one for national and other for provincial assembly. Green ballot paper is for the National Assembly, and the white one is for your provincial assembly.

Polling Booth

Voters need to proceed to polling booth, a space where they will stamp ballot papers. ECP advised to wait for short time to let ink dry before folding the ballot paper correctly.

Slide ballot into Box

Walk over to the ballot boxes, slide the green ballot paper into the box with the green top, and the white ballot paper into the white box.
