Election 2024: Filing of nomination papers to conclude tomorrow

ISLAMABAD- The nationwide filing of nomination papers for 2024 general elections is in progress, with the deadline for political parties and candidates to submit their documents set for tomorrow, December 24, as per the latest schedule released by the Election Commission of Pakistan.

The political parties and the independent candidates, originally, were given a three-day window to collect nomination papers, with the initial deadline set for today.

However, responding to requests from PML-N, JUI-F, MQM-P, and BAP, the ECP granted a two-day extension for the submission of nomination papers.

POLITICAL PARTIES, CANDIDATES AND NOMINATION PAPERS

In Karachi, seven nomination papers have been acquired for NA-242, and nine candidates have officially submitted their nomination papers for NA-243. For PS-111, 18 nomination papers have been gathered, while PS-112 has received 12 forms, PS-113 has nine papers, PS-114 has 18 forms, and PS-115 has 18 papers.

In Karachi’s central district, a total of 242 forms have been issued and 84 collected for the National Assembly’s four constituencies. NA-247 has 26 forms issued and 23 collected, NA-248 has 99 forms issued and 25 collected, NA-249 has 32 forms issued and 12 collected, and NA-250 has 85 forms issued and 24 collected.

For PS-122, five papers have been issued and 13 collected, PS-123 has seen 92 papers issued and 17 collected, PS-124 has 72 forms issued and 20 collected, PS-125 has 55 forms issued and 14 collected, and PS-126 has 15 papers issued and 16 collected. PS-127 has six forms issued and one collected, PS-128 has 21 papers issued and 22 collected, and PS-129 has 53 papers issued and 26 forms collected.

In the central district, PS-130 has 27 forms issued and 24 collected, while PS-9 has a total of 244 forms issued and 165 collected.

In Lahore, over the past three days, 767 candidates have obtained nomination papers for National Assembly seats. So far, 152 candidates have formally submitted their nomination papers for National Assembly seats, and 2,129 candidates have acquired nomination papers for provincial assembly seats.

During the last three days, 438 candidates have collected nomination papers, with 106 women candidates securing papers for the women’s reserved seats in the National Assembly. For reserved seats in the provincial assembly, 363 women candidates have obtained nomination papers, and 93 candidates have collected papers for minority seats.

Rehana Imtiaz, the mother of Usman Dar from Sialkot, has submitted nomination papers. Rahana Imtiaz Dar is set to contest elections from NA-71 and PP-47. In Sahiwal, PTI leader Rai Hasan Nawaz has obtained nomination papers and will be contesting elections from NA-143 and PP-203.

The process of collecting nomination papers is ongoing in Balochistan, with 332 papers issued for 16 National Assembly seats and 886 candidates collecting papers for 51 provincial assembly seats. Additionally, 52 candidates have acquired papers for reserved seats in the National and Provincial Assemblies.

PPP Balochistan’s provincial president Mir Changiz Khan Jamali has obtained papers for NA-255, and MQM (Pakistan) candidate Imadad Miri has secured papers for NA-255.

In Multan, 197 candidates have collected the nomination papers for National and Provincial Assembly constituencies.

NA-148 has seen eight candidates obtaining papers, and eight candidates have also secured papers for NA-149. For NA-150, 11 candidates have obtained papers, three for NA-151, nine for NA-152, and 11 for NA-153.
