Punjab Assembly Speaker Chaudhary Pervaiz Elahi has phoned parliamentary leader of Pakistan People’s Party in Punjab Assembly Syed Hassan Murtaza and consulted on activating the assembly forum over the coronavirus.
While talking, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced the formation of a parliamentary committee. Pervaiz Elahi said that the committee would consist of parliamentary leaders of all parties, the committee would play a role in tackling the COVID-19 epidemic and providing relief to the victims. The committee could play an active role in the time of harvesting of the crop, he added.
PPP parliamentary leader Hassan Murtaza lauded the move and said that it is a good step that the Punjab Assembly will play a dynamic role in this crisis through the committee. In any crisis, the role of the elected house is of paramount importance; Parliament cannot be held inactive in any crisis; the role of Punjab Assembly speaker is very positive, he remarked.
