KARACHI – Shawwal moon was born last night and it could be sighted today evening (Tuesday), said the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) in latest update.
The birth of the moon of the new Islamic month took place at 11:21pm last night and its age would be around 20 hours by the today evening.
The Shawwal moon, which marks the end of the holy month of Ramdan and start of Eidul Fitr festivals, could be sighted for 50 minutes after the sunset, the Met Office said.
Sky in southern areas of Pakistan is expected to remain clear while there would be cloudy in the northern areas.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is all set to meet in Islamabad today (Tuesday) for sighting of Shawwal-ul-Mukarram crescent, which will mark an end to the holy month of Ramadan.
Chairman of the Committee Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad will preside over the meeting.
Members from various institutions, including Ministry of Science and Technology, Pakistan Meteorological Department, and The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission will also participate in the meeting.
Zonal members from Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar will also contribute to the deliberations.
