Efforts to be made to boost tax collection: Chawla

Sindh minister for Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla has asked concerned Directors Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control to boost up their efforts for recovery of all taxes and ensure timely service of challans of Property Tax to the tax payers and if it is needed the challans may be served through private courier service.
This he said while presiding over a meeting here in his office today. Secretary Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control Abdul Haleem Shaikh, Director General Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui and other Directors also attended the meeting. While briefing the meeting, Director General ET & NC Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told that upto October, 2019 was Rs. 22517.679 million were recovered and as far as annual target was Rs. 84700.084 million, adding that mostly challans of Property Tax and Professional Tax had not been served to the tax payers, however concerned officers had been directed to speed up the process of serving challans to the tax payers.
Addressing the meeting Provincial minister for Excise and Taxation & Narcotics Control and Parliamentary Affairs Mukesh Kumar Chawla directed to meet out the shortage of the staff and ensure smooth connectivity of internet service in order to get desired results. He also directed to make a comprehensive plan to recover arrears, unpaid by autonomous bodies/corporations and this issue must be pursued vigorously.
He added, ‘ Strenuous efforts should be taken to improve the recovery of Professional Tax in the coming months, in either case disciplinary action will be taken against unwilling officers and officials who fail to perform their primary duties to recover the government dues’. He said that recovery of the taxes was the basic duty of the officers and they must focus on it.
