AMSTERDAM – A Dutch court on Tuesday convicted Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Chief Hafiz Saad Rizvi, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) Head Maulana Ashraf Jalali over a fatwa regarding assassination of Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
Hafiz Saad Rizvi was sentenced to four years in prison while Maulana Ashraf Jalali received a fourteen-year sentence.
The court had previously sentenced Khalid Latif, a former Pakistani cricketer, to twelve years for his role in inciting violence against Wilders.
In a 2018 video, Latif offered a $23,000 reward for Wilders’ assassination.
The court proceedings for Rizvi, Jalali, and Latif were conducted in their absence.
According to the reports, the Dutch government had requested their extradition from Pakistan but received no response.
There is no extradition agreement between the Netherlands and Pakistan.
In 2018, Wilders announced a competition for blasphemous caricatures , leading to international protests from Muslims after which Wilders decided to cancel the contest.
