WASHINGTON —  US residents head to polls with historic election unfolds and now the first results have surfaced in from Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, setting stage for what is shaping up to be one of the closest presidential races.

In a rare development, Republican delivered an early tie in the presidential contest, with both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump receiving 3 votes each.

The polling result, announced minutes after midnight shows neck to neck reflection of tight national race. With polls showing a near-even split between Democratic vice president and former Republican president, neither candidate holds a clear edge in enough battleground states to secure the 270 electoral votes needed for Presidency.

Donald Trump and Kamala tied in the key swing states, while Dixville Notch remains first community to cast ballots on Election Day, with voting beginning at midnight and concluding once all registered voters have voted. The small population typically draws significant attention each election cycle.

The polls race ended in a tie, with each candidate earning 3 votes, a rare occurrence that could signal just how tight this year’s race is across the nation of 340 million.

US media reports claimed Kamala is leading in four of the seven battleground states expected to determine the outcome of the election. In particular, the latest surveys from top publication show both candidates locked in a dead heat, with each holding narrow leads or ties in key states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Georgia.

Meanwhile, the race for control of Congress is heating up as well. In Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, the Democratic-held seat faces a strong challenge from Republican Neil Parrott, who is vying to flip the district after more than a decade of Democratic representation. The contest, centered on issues like abortion rights, the economy, and immigration, is among the most closely watched in the country.

All eyes are on the battleground states, with both candidates hoping to break the deadlock and claim victory. With results too close to call, the 2024 election promises to be a nail-biter until the very end.
