Khuda Bux Brohi Thatta
A pivotal meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was chaired by Chairman DDMA and Deputy Commissioner Thatta, Munawar Abbas Soomro. Here in Makli Darbar hall Makli on Tuesday. The assembly, organized under the Risk Governance Framework, saw the participation of officers from several departments.
While adressing the meeting Deputy Commissioner Soomro highlighted proactive measures in response to the escalating heatstroke threat. He announced the establishment of camps across various cities in the district, providing cold drinking water. Special wards for heatstroke patients have been set up in hospitals, with medical staff instructed to remain vigilant.
In his directives, Deputy Commissioner Soomro emphasized the urgent need for all departmental officers to finalize preparations for potential rain and flood scenarios. He stressed that any negligence in these matters would be intolerable. Specifically, he instructed the Irrigation Department and other relevant authorities to repair weak embankments along the Indus River, clean canals, branches, and drains, and ensure all disposal systems and machinery remain operational to prevent water flow obstructions.
Municipal, town, public health, and drainage officers were instructed to maintain a field presence during anticipated rains and to stay in close communication with district administration officers to address any arising issues promptly. The Education Department and other relevant authorities were also directed to promptly inform about the establishment of relief camps, ensuring arrangements for drinking water, food, medical services, and other essential facilities for potential victims.
Health department officials were mandated to be on standby 24/7 across all district health centers to manage emergencies during rains. This includes ensuring the availability of doctors, medical staff, ambulances, vaccines for snake and dog bites, necessary medicines, and devising plans for medical facilities in potential relief camps. Furthermore, the Deputy Commissioner directed the Livestock Department to finalize measures to protect livestock from potential diseases.
