An accountability court in Islamabad on Monday rejected former president and PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari’s bail plea and decided to indict him and others accused in the Toshakhana case on September 9.
Adjourning the hearing, the court asked the accused to appear in person at the next hearing. Senior Pakistan People’s Party members including Qamar Zaman Kaira and former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf were also barred by law enforcement from entering accountability court premises.
Speaking to the media outside the court premises, Zardari’s counsel Farooq H Naek said that he was also not allowed to enter in his personal vehicle and had to walk to the premises.
He further said that pre-arrest bail surety bonds were already submitted and he would appeal the court to question the former president through video link owing to Zardari’s deteriorating health and Covid-19 concerns.
PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto was also present alongside his father for the hearing.
