KARACHI – Cooking has become more expensive as prices of top cooking oil and ghee brands saw big increase, amid a slight surge in inflation.
For the week ending December 19, inflation based on Sensitive Price Index (SPI) moved by 0.38pc, mainly due to price hikes in tomatoes, firewood, vegetable ghee, cooking oil, and sugar.
Amid surge in prices, there is price hike of Rs80 per kg, bringing cost to Rs570. Some major brands have raised their prices by as much as Rs. 100 per kg and litre. The price surge stems from a change in palm oil prices of $1290-1300 per tonne.
