Conor McGregor has been arrested in his homeland for alleged driving violations including dangerous driving in his Bentley Continental GT.
The arrest took place in Dublin last night with his £140,000 vehicle also being seized by authorities before being returned.
The 33-year-old is due to appear at Blanchardstown District Court next month. If convicted, the charge of “dangerous driving” carries a maximum penalty of a fine of up to 5,000 euros or six months in prison or both.
Conor McGregor, the world’s highest-earning athlete in 2021 has been on a comeback trail since losing to Dustin Poirier, a fight that ended with the Irishman breaking his leg.
The former two-weight world champion is expected to return to the Octagon later this year. Although the date and opponent when he returns has not yet been confirmed, McGregor is reportedly keen to face the winner of the Justin Gaethje vs Charles Oliveira fight in May.
“The Notorious” is no stranger to controversy having made a career out of his involvement in illicit activities which have landed him in hot waters more than once. He was arrested after breaking the windows of a bus carrying UFC fighters which resulted in him being sued by several athletes that were injured as a result. He has also faced charges of sexual assault and has been involved in public spats with celebrities on many occasions.
It has been a rough couple of days for the UFC with their fighters being involved in legal matters just a few hours apart after Jorge Masvidal and Colby Convington’s bust-up in Miami.
