The Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, convened a meeting with a delegation from the World Bank, led by Country Director NajyBenhassine, to review the progress of 13 ongoing projects valued at US 3.2 billion, being supported by the World Bank. As of now, 40 percent or US1.33 billion has been disbursed, and both parties agreed to expedite the projects by addressing any bottlenecks to ensure their timely completion.
The meeting, attended by provincial ministers and relevant officials, witnessed a detailed briefing by Chairman P&D Najam Shah on the various projects. Karachi Mobility Project: This project includes three components focusing on road infrastructure development, operationalization, and capacity building. Minister Transport SharjeelMemon outlined the progress, particularly the construction of Jam Sadiq Bridges, with preliminary work already initiated and major construction set to commence by June 15. Competitive &Liveable City of Karachi (CLICK) Project:
Minister Local Government SaeedGhani provided updates on the project’s components, indicating that necessary approvals have been obtained, and restructuring is anticipated by the end of April. Progress on the Emergency Response Component was also discussed. Solid Waste Emergency & Efficiency Project (SWEEP): Details were provided on the construction of waste transfer stations and landfill sites, with completion expected by June 2025. Procurement activities and environmental assessments are also on track.
Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP): Progress on infrastructure investments and operational reforms of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board was discussed.
Challenges related to procurement activities and synchronization of project timelines were highlighted. Sindh Solar Energy Project (SSEP): Minister Energy Nasir Shah shared updates on solarization initiatives for public buildings and procurement activities for solar home systems and solar parks. Sindh Early Learning Enhancement through Classroom Transformation (SELCT) Project: Efforts to improve reading skills in early-grade primary students and school infrastructure were outlined, including baseline surveys and school rehabilitation. Sindhi Integrated Health and Population Project (SIHPP): Minister Health Dr. AzraPechuho discussed operational costs for health facilities and the provision of ambulances and mobile medical services.
Sindh Water and Agriculture Transformation Project (SWAT): Minister Irrigation Jam Khan Shoro provided insights into water resource management and rehabilitation works in the agricultural sector. Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project (SFERP): Progress on infrastructure rehabilitation and emergency response capacity enhancement in flood-affected areas was reviewed.
Housing Project: Updates on housing reconstruction efforts post-floods were provided, with significant progress noted in construction activities. Additionally, discussions on the Sindh Resilience Project and the Sindh Livestock and Aquaculture Sectors Transformation Project took place, with a commitment to accelerate work on these initiatives.
