ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi will chair two meetings of Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) at the Supreme Court on Friday (today).
One of the meetings will focus on the appointment of judges to the Sindh and Peshawar High Courts.
For the Sindh High Court, the commission will consider 13 names, including Shahid Hassan, Khalid Hassan, Obaid-ur-Rehman, Rafiq Ahmed, Umaima Anwar, Usman Ali, Muhammad Umar, Mansoor Ali, Parkash Kumar, Zeeshan Abdullah, Muhammad Zeeshan, Muhammad Jafar Raza, and Nisar Ahmed.
For the Peshawar High Court, three additional session judges and six lawyers will be considered. The judges include District and Session Judge Kaleem Arshad, Farah Jamshed, and Judge Inaamullah Khan. The lawyers being considered are Junaid Anwar, Mudassir Amir, Aurangzeb, Advocate Jawad Ehsanullah, Advocate Salahuddin, and Advocate Sadiq Ali.
Another meeting of the Judicial Commission will discuss including Justice Shahid Bilal in the constitutional bench.
Members of the Judicial Commission include Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Munib Akhtar, Justice Aminuddin and Justice Jamal Mandokhail.
The meeting will also be attended by the Minister for Law, Attorney General, Pakistan Bar Council member Akhtar Hussain, Senator Farooq H. Naek, Sheikh Aftab, female member Roshan Khurshid, opposition Senator Ali Zafar, and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan.
It may be mentioned here that two letters from Justice Mansoor Ali Shah surfaced on Thursday in which he requested the postponement of the Judicial Commission meeting. One letter was addressed to Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and the other to the Judicial Commission itself.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah expressed concerns over the appointment of judges without the formulation of proper rules.
