We can all agree on the fact that in this technological era our youth often tends to limit themselves to either video games or the internet. In an attempt to promote a healthy balance of mental and physical fitness, the City School A-Level Campus Gulberg has organised a three-day sports event called, ‘The City Olympiad’, from Feb 13 to 15.
The event gives students an opportunity to participate in activities that require both physical prowess and strategic thinking. In addition to the games and matches, sports workshops for important tips and discussions regarding physical fitness, diet proportion, teamwork, endurance and sportsmanship. Participants felt relaxed and unwound at the Social Night, which was scheduled at the end of the event.
350 participants took part in this event, and chief guest for the opening ceremony was Ms Natalia Pervaiz, a Pakistani cricketer who made her Women’s Twenty20 International Cricket debut for Pakistani women against New Zealand’s women on November 9, 2017.
Chief guest for the closing ceremony Miss Ayesha Zafar, born in Sialkot, is a Pakistani women cricketer who plays for the Pakistan national women’s cricket team. She had her first debut in the Pakistan squad 2018 and in October 2018, she was named in Pakistan’s squad for the 2018 ICC Women’s World Twenty20 tournament in the West Indies.
These young ladies are inspiring figures for our youth in the field of sports, especially women and girls. We endeavoured that this three-day event brought about long term changes in the way students spend their time, encouraging them to add physical fitness as a permanent feature in their daily routines.
