ACCORDING to statistics unveiled by police, crimes in Karachi have witnessed a rise in the year 2021 with a spike in incidents such as mobile/motorcycle snatching and murders.
A look at the statistics shows that 24, 130 mobiles, 50,000 motorcycles and 2060 cars were snatched during the year.
Administrator Karachi Murtaza Whahab concurred with this, attributing the increase due to poor economic situation in the country.
No justification or excuse whatsoever can be given for rise in crime rates and it is the responsibility of provincial government to ensure law & order in Karachi, which is the economic hub of the country.
Peace in Karachi is important for progress and stability in the country.
It is after a sustained operation of Rangers against criminal elements that peace was largely restored to Karachi, which gave a sense of security to its people who were fed up of elements such as extortionists.
These criminal elements could not be allowed again to rule the roost.
We are confident that crime figures released by the police will not go unnoticed and requisite steps will be taken to nab criminal elements.
We understand that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has the intent to modernise the police force and equip it with latest gadgets and equipment to deal with all sorts of challenges.
But at the same time, there is also dire need to rid the force of black sheep, which is a scar on police force.
Only an efficient and capable police force can deliver and ensure the security of people.
For this recruitment process in the force should be made completely transparent, denying space to political appointees.
