A Training & Education Convention for Wheat Farmers was organized at Koli Chand Sialkot by Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC / M/o National Food Security & Research Islamabad under the project “Productivity Enhancement of Wheat” of Prime Minister’s Agriculture Emergency Program.
The special guest of the program, Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Chairman PARC, in his address encouraged the farmers to formulate the agriculture sector on modern lines. He briefed the farmers about the services and innovative efforts of PARC in the field of agriculture.
The Chairman encouraged the farmers to cultivate edible commodities especially Canola so that Pakistan could become self-sufficient in edible oil production and save a lot of foreign exchange. Dr Ghulam Muhammad Ali urged farmers to use certified seeds to achieve higher wheat yields.
Mr. Javed Iqbal, Director Agriculture (Extension) Gujranwala Division apprised the farmers about the agricultural incentives offered by the Prime Minister of Pakistan under agriculture emergency program along-with the procedure for obtaining them.
He also apprised the farmers about the current government policy regarding smog. Dr. Muzammil Hussain, Director, Farm and Training, Gujranwala Division, explained the agricultural recommendations for achieving better yields of wheat crop and clarified fhe methodology for achieving better yields through the use of better agricultural technology in the present times.
On the occasion, Dr. Muhammad Yaqoob, National Project Director (Wheat) PARC, urged the farmers to aware themselves about Prime Minister’s Agricultural Emergency Program and to adopt modern methods of agriculture, timely sowing of crops, selection of quality & healthy seeds.
He also apprised the farmers about the proper and balanced use of fertilizers. While Dr. Atiq-ur-Rehman Ratu, Wheat Coordinator PARC informed the participants about the identification of Kangi and Gangiari on wheat and taking precautionary measures against it.
