A high level delegation of K-Electric headed by its CEO Syed Monis Abdullah Alvi called on Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI). On this occasion President of KATI Sheikh Umer Rehan, Senior Vice President Muhammad Ikram Rajput, Syed Wajid Hussian, Chairman & CEO KITE Zubair Chhaya, Head of KATI’s standing committee on K-Electric Danish Khan, Former Presidents of KATI Masood Naqi, Syed Farrukh Mazhar , Akbar Farooqui and other welcomed that delegation.
President KATI Sheikh Umer Rehan briefed the delegation about production capacity and economic significance of Korangi Industrial Area. He said that without providing uninterrupted and low cost energy to the industries, economy could not be stabilized. He cited that Korangi Industrial Area adds PKR 600 million into national exchequer in form of taxes and duties etc. and we expect from the government and utility providers to deal the area on priority bases. He praised that response system of K-Electric had improved significantly however there is need to add more staff and vehicles to technical support facility. He also urged the CEO to establish an especial technical support facility only dedicated to the industries of Korangi.
On this Occasion CEO K-Electric Monis Alvi said that K-Electric adopted the policy of exempting Industries from load-shedding and later in 2013 this initiative was included in national energy policy. He said that 77 pc of Karachi is load-shedding free now. He assured that industries were always on the top priority of K-Electric, and policies for new connection have been simplified. He told that K-electric is planning to invest USD 3 billion in upcoming four years. He said that due to delay in multi-year tariff finalization the utility provider faced financial complications but despite that our performance was improved. He also told that K-electric is capable to generate 120 MW from the garbage of Karachi. He showed his resolve to increase generation to 900 MW with the investment of PKR 600 million.
