GILGIT – At least 25 people have died and several were injured as a passenger bus crashed into a car and veered off the road, plunging into a deep gorge in Kohistan, a district within KP’s Hazara region.
The ill-fated vehicles were travelling along a treacherous mountain road in the northwestern region when they smashed into each other and plunged into a gorge, killing several passengers on spot.
Initial investigations revealed that the deadly crash occurred due to the overspeeding of the Rawalpindi bound bus.
Following the crash, local police, and rescue officials started the operation and moved the injured to the Civil Hospital Dasu. Some of the injured are reportedly critical and were referred to Ayub Medical Complex Hospital in Abbottabad.
Deadly road accidents are witnessed repeatedly in the fifth most populous country, mainly due to a lack of safety measures and poor infrastructure standards.
Earlier this month, a deadly crash between a fuel tanker and a passenger coach more than dozen including women and children near the Kohat tunnel in KP.
