The government is set to double sales tax on computers and laptops to garner around Rs3 billion in additional revenue, aimed at increasing state earnings amidst economic woes.

The decision aimed to jack up sales tax on these items is part of the government’s efforts to boost revenue. The increase may lead to higher prices for computers and laptops, affecting household budgets and potentially slowing the adoption of new technologies.

It has been learnt that sellers will bear brunt including slow purchases or a preference for more affordable options.

The stern move has potential to offer more value-added services to justify the increased costs. The projected revenue from this tax hike is intended to support various public services and development projects.

Overall, the government is taking this as a balanced approach to meeting fiscal needs while capitalizing on sectors with strong market demand.
