Basharat warns against lapse in Ashura security

Punjab Law and Cooperatives Minister Raja Basharat on Wednesday paid a surprise visit to the provincial control room at Civil Secretariat and reviewed security of Muharram 9th processions and gatherings across the province through a video link.

Hussain Bahadur, Additional Secretary, Internal Security, Home Department, briefed the Law Minister.

Raja Basharat while issuing instructions to all the divisional and district administration officers said that besides keeping a close watch on the security of every procession and gathering, the implementation of Covid SOPs should also be ensured.

He said that security personnel should be kept alert till the end of every majlis and procession, warning that no negligence will be tolerated at any level.

The Law Minister further directed that in case of any emergency, the Provincial Control Room should be informed immediately and necessary steps should be started without any delay.

He said that the district administration should keep a close touch with the licensees of Muharram processions and meetings in their respective areas and ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity and light in case of darkness.

He directed the commissioners, RPOs, Deputy Commissioners, DPOs and Tehsil administrations across the province to be present in the field on Muharram 9th and 10th to monitor the security and other necessary measures personally.

Meanwhile, Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat on Wednesday deplored the incident of harassment of a girl in Greater Iqbal Park occurred on August 14 and said that the Punjab government has been taking action from all angles and has been in constant touch with Nadra to identify the culprits. He said that as soon as any accused is identified, arrests will be made immediately.

He said that immediate cases would be registered against those responsible for the incident and prosecution would be started in the court without any delay. Raja Basharat said that the police have been doing its job satisfactorily in all respects.

“I assure that like the motorway incident, the accused will be punished as soon as possible by taking swift legal action against them and will be made an example for others”.
