Babar Azam becomes most successful T20I captain

DUBLIN – Babar Azam become the most successful captain in the shortest format after the Green Shirts thumped Ireland in the second T20I in Dublin last day.

Pakistan defeated the host Ireland by seven wickets with 3.1 overs to spare to level the three-match T20I series 1-1. Ireland won the first T20I while the decider will be played in Dublin on May 14 (Tuesday).

The victory against Ireland is Babar Azam’s 45th win as Pakistan skipper, the most by any captain in the T20I history. The star batter has so far lead Pakistan in 78 T20Is. Brian Masaba is in the second position with 44 wins out of 56 T20I matches as captain of Uganda.

Asghar Afghan of Afghanistan and England’s Eoin Morgan are the third and fourth most successful T20I captains with 42 wins each. Asghar Afghan and Eoin Morgan have led their sides in 52 and 72 matches respectively.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi has congratulated Babar Azam on the achievement and presented him the team jersey after the second T20I. He also presented a jersey to left-arm pacer Shaheen Shan Afridi who achieved the individual milestone of taking 300 wickets in international matches.
