DEHLI – Australia thrashed Netherlands by 309 runs in the 24th match of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in Dehli on Wednesday evening.
Chasing a challenging 400 runs target for an unlikely victory, Netherlands kept losing wickets right from the start and were bundled out for 90 runs in 21 overs.
Vikramjit Singh scored 25 runs, Teja Nidamanuru 14, Scott Edwards 12, Sybrand Engelbrecht 11 and Colin Ackermann 10 runs. No other batter could enter double figures.
Adam Zampa bagged four wickets and Mitchell Marsh two while Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood took one wicket each.
Glenn Maxwell was named player of the match.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Australia smashed 399 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Glenn Maxwell scored the fastest hundred in the World Cup history when he reached the milestone in just 40 balls. He was got out on 106 runs in the last over.
David Warner continued to shine at the top order by scoring 104 runs. Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) also contributed with the bat to help the side set a challenging target for the Netherlands.
Logan van Beek bagged four wickets and Bas de Leede two while Aryan Dutt took one wicket.
