SUKKUR – An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) while announcing the verdict in the case of the murder of JUI (F) leader Dr. Khalid Mehmood Somro sentenced all the accused to life imprisonment and heavy fines.
ATC Judge Abdul Rehman Qazi announced a brief verdict in the Khalid Mehmood Somro murder case. The court sentenced all six accused to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs1 million per person after proving their guilt.
JUI leader Khalid Mehmood Somro was shot dead on November 29, 2014 in Sukkur.
The court conducted over 450 hearings in the Dr. Khalid Mehmood Somro murder case.
A total of 17 witnesses testified in the case, and the special Anti-Terrorism Court of Sukkur reserved its verdict on December 13.
On the occasion of the verdict’s announcement, strict security measures were implemented at the special court set up at the Central Jail Sukkur.
Six accused were named in the murder case, including Hanif Bhutto, Sarang Totani, Mushtaq Mehr, Darya Khan Jamali, Latif Jamali and Altaf Jamali. The accused have been in Central Jail since December 2014.
The accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and terrorism charges, along with 7 years of imprisonment each for possessing weapons.
Maulana Rashid Mehmood Somro said that the death penalty should have been given after proving the crime, and they will approach the High Court against the decision.
